THE TRUMAN DOCTRINE
  • Aid to people struggling to resist threats to democratic freedom
  • Gave countries help so they would not become communists
  • Truman wanted to make sure that other countries did not convert to communism
THE MARSHALL PLAN
  • Offered 13 billion dollars in aid to western and southern Europe.
  • Plan helped the nations of Europe rebuild.
  • Wanted to get these nations being aided on the U.S. side

THE BERLIN AIRLIFT
  • Soviet forces blockade access to Berlin
  • Truman has airlift of food, fuel, and equipment into the city
  • 275,000 flights made into Berlin by U.S. and Berlin cargo planes

  • Formed because of alarm over communist control of Eastern Europe
